So You're Old? So What!

Author: Gary Simpson

I laugh at people who say: "Oh, I'm too old to learn that." Really? They cite - as an excuse - "You can't teach an old dog, new tricks!" Poppycock! It all depends on whether the mind is willing. You see it is so easy to use age as an excuse. In the end it is just that - another excuse.

When are you gonna stop kidding yourself?

Recently my local newspaper carried an article about a Mexican woman - Albina Cruces Vazquez. This lady has only just retired as a schoolteacher at age - wait for it - 102. She has worked 85 years continuously in Guanajuato State. In 1947, she founded the Eduardo Noveo Primary School then ran the school for - wait for it again - 58 years.

Ms Vazquez was asked about her retirement and told the reporter this:

"I don't want to go into retirement but it is time to give way to some new ideas." WHAT?

She is moving on with her life. At 102 she is taking up another profession. Do you think 102 too old? How old are you? Still think you are too old?

You are only as old as you think you are. I have known 20 year olds who behave like pensioners. I have also personally known octogenarians who belie their age. They are still full of life and wonder with eight decades behind them.

So, let me ask you... what are you doing? Do you think you are too old? Ever thought of starting with something fresh just to keep you on the ball?
